Last night I attended a Meet the Candidate event at the library for the upcoming school board race. There were candidates from both SRC and Escambia. My thoughts after for my own district (Good luck up in 5, and SRC!):

*Escambia District 4*
Carissa Bergosh – She had a hard time forming a sentence, much less offering a concise opinion on matters. When asked about teacher retention the only thing she offered, in a run on, circular thought was discipline. When introduced she said we must know who she is because of her husband (Judge Bergosh) -that’s such a red flag for me when people throw out their political/social connections. I expected much more from her and was truly shocked at how spacey and unimpressive her whole display was.

Rich Holzknecht – I know Rich personally as we both worked at the same brokerage. While he is a nice person, his extreme views are a big turnoff for me. He has the support of Vicki Baggett, who is single handedly (and against judicial advice) eliminating books from libraries.

Brian Ranelli – Another who had a hard time displaying a concise answer. No children through the school system, no experience or degrees in education at all. Doesn’t seem like he attended public schools either. He said he would approach the position from a business standpoint. His answers to questions came off as political sound bites. He seemed out of his element. My opinion – it comes off as a political stepping stone he’s attempting. Sorry, not at the expense of kids. Not impressed with his demeanor or his answers to questions.

Earle McAuley – To me, the only one with a resume impressive enough and cohesive answers to questions. Current teacher at GBHS (English), teacher of the year 2023, had concise answers to issues presented and offered actual applicable solutions for a few problems presented. Has 4 kids through the public school system of Escambia. Throwing my support behind him!

Hope this was helpful for some. PLEASE, PLEASE VOTE – This seat is extremely important to our county!
